The combination of Solar Energy Systems and Energy Management Services provides attractive savings along with flexible financing options.
Solar Systems are Affordable
A solar system's cost may be offset by a combination of federal tax credits, state incentives, earnings from the sale of energy certificates and from energy savings.
  1. Energy Savings
From the date of installation a solar electric system will reliably produce electricity during daylight hours for more than thirty years. As the cost of utility supplied electricity inflates, the actual energy savings from the solar system will increase.
  2. Federal Investment Tax Credits (ITC)
Businesses that install solar systems that are connected to the utility grid qualify for investment tax credits amounting to 30% of the net purchase price.
  3. Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS)
Businesses may qualify for federal tax benefits resulting from the rapid depreciation of the solar asset over five years.
  4. State Rebates and Tax Credits
Certain states have implemented generous rebates based on the size of the electrical production of the solar system. State rebates may cover 25% to 50% of the cost of a solar electric system.
  5. Renewable Energy Certificates
Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) or Green-tags, are awarded by each state to producers of renewable energy. The value and amount of certificates varies by state. The annual sale of solar energy certificates provides the solar system owner with additional income to help to amortize the cost of solar system.

Flexible Financing Options

Purchasing Options
Corporations may purchase a solar system for cash and take advantage of investment tax credits and depreciation allowance. Alternatively, the company may either finance the installed system, utilize a lease purchase arrangement, or purchase the electricity only with a Solar Services Agreement.

Financing Programs
The Solar Center, through its financial associates, is able to arrange financing for customers either as a project debt or with a lease/purchase arrangement. A financing arrangement may enable a business to avoid using funds from its capital budget to purchase the solar system while relieving the operating expenses for the facility. Profitable businesses may also use financing to monetize their tax credits and apply the energy savings and earnings from energy certificate sales to offset the loan payments.

Financing Programs for Non-Profit Entities
Organizations that are unable to benefit directly from tax credits may be able to obtain favorable lease-purchase terms for a solar system. A leaser that initially owns the solar system and can take advantage of the Federal tax credits, will be able to offer more attractive lease rates to the non-profit organization. Depending upon local incentives and energy costs, the monthly lease payment will typically be less than the combined electrical savings and earnings from energy certificate sales. At the end of the lease term the system may be purchased for the greater of "fair market value" or a percentage of the original purchase price.

Solar Service Agreement (SSA)-Purchase energy, not systems
A Solar Service Agreement enables a business to purchase electricity produced by a solar system without purchasing the system. This arrangement enables a business to obtain the benefits of solar power without purchasing or leasing the solar equipment. Instead, the owner of the solar system installs the system at the business location, the business then purchases the solar electricity produced by the system at a predictable rate which will be lower and less inflationary than utility rates.
