Meter Q&A
Recent Changes in NJCEP Requirements were announced November 22, 2011 in an email to all existing NJ solar customers.
This message informs all customers that in order to continue participation in earning and selling SRECs, they must have a qualifying meter installed. (It is important to note that all systems larger than 10kW have a qualifying meter installed already, if the system was installed by The Solar Center; systems larger than 10kW will require no further action.)
If your system is smaller than 10kW, you may not have a qualifying meter installed. Installations that occurred several years ago may not have solar meters installed, as the requirement was not mandatory until later years of the NJCEP program. If your system is smaller than 10kW, submit your request for more information and you will receive a questionnaire to determine whether you need to have a meter installed.
Q&A
- 1. How do I know if I need a meter installed?
- You may need a meter if your system is under 10kW. If your system is over 10kW, you do not need an additional meter installed.
- 2. I have a solar meter. How do I know if it is revenue grade?
- If your system was installed by The Solar Center, we can assure you that your meter is ANSI certified. If your system was installed by another contractor, please contact them for verification.
- 3. What is the deadline for meter installation?
- According to the NJCEP communication, meters must be installed no later than June 30, 2012.
- 4. What happens if I do not install this meter?
- You will be ineligible to earn or sell SRECs after June 30, 2012.
- 5. My system was not installed by The Solar Center; can The Solar Center install my meter?
- Yes. Please contact us for further information.
- 6. What if I already have a solar meter, but my system is smaller than 10kW? What do I have to do?
- Going forward, you will have to upload meter readings monthly to earn and sell SRECs. When specific instructions become available from NJCEP, we will assist you with next steps and help you learn how to upload meter readings.
- 7. How will my SRECs now be uploaded into GATS?
- You will have to take monthly readings from your solar meter and send those to GATS or your aggregator. For more information on meter reading instructions, or how you can simplify this process with additional automated services, contact us.
