Franco Dichio, CEO
Franco Dichio joined the The Solar Center in 2006 as Vice President of Operations and Strategic Planning. Franco joins the executive team with 20 years of technical, program management and business development experience. Prior to joining The Solar Center, Franco worked for AT&T / Lucent where he program managed major new business development efforts in the US, Europe and Asia/Pacific. Franco gained extensive experience in Financial Modeling and Business Development as he applied his technical expertise in the wireless telecom industry. He will lead the strategic growth initiatives to expand The Solar Center into new market segments and execute on its business plan, growing The Solar Center into the leading regional integrator of solar energy systems.
Franco received Bachelor and Masters of Engineering degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
Staff of the Solar Center
The staff of The Solar Center has over four decades of experience in designing, installing and servicing solar electric, solar hot water, solar heating and solar pool systems. We also have extensive experience in lighting and HVAC energy efficiency measures for commercial and residential buildings.
Shannon Whitworth Kayen, COO
Formerly with another solar energy system company, Shannon spent the past five years in the solar energy industry. She has developed the core Residential Management Team for The Solar Center as well as leading the expansion to new office locations. She has been guiding the Residential Operations for The Solar Center for the past year and before as Sales Manager. Prior to joining The Solar Center as one of the first three founding employees, she has also served in sales in two other solar energy companies on the East coast. Shannon has been with The Solar Center since April 2005. Her duties include developing and guiding six departments -- Residential Sales, Engineering, Customer Service, Marketing and Installation and the Expansion Team. She is responsible for the operations of the residential team across New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, as well as guiding the expansion to new areas.
Alan Cowe, Director, Business Development
Alan joined the Solar Center as a founding member in April 2005. He is an Electronics Engineer by training and has had a long and successful career developing advanced data communications technology, medical imaging systems, monitoring and control equipment and solar powered imaging equipment for monitoring remote sites. His engineering experience includes research, product development and management activities with RCA, ITT, AM Varityper and General Signal Corporation. Alan also ran his own engineering development company for over 25 years. Since joining the Solar Center he initially sold over $5 million in residential sales and he is now actively developing the commercial sales operations for the company. He received a BS from and did postgraduate work at Glasgow University.
Barrett Lightbourn, CTO
Barrett, a mechanical engineer, registered as both a Professional Engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional, has more than twenty-five years experience in the energy conservation field. Barrett joined the Solar Center in 2006 and, in addition to overseeing the Engineering Department, provides analysis and design services for commercial and institutional solar thermal and building energy conservation projects. Barrett received a BA in Architecture and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
Joe Smith, Director, Implementation
Joe has worked as an electrician for the past five years. Joe gained his initial solar experience in California working for a leading solar system installation company. He worked on installations for residential and commercial customers and later led and managed multiple installation crews. He joined The Solar Center after starting and building the California company's east coast installations into one of the leading operations in New Jersey. Joe leads the installation group and is responsible for recruitment, training and managing the installation process. Joe received his BS degree from Humboldt State University.
